A name numerology calculator turns your name and your date of birth into four numbers:
Life Path, Destiny, Soul Urge and Personality. Enter both below, choose Chaldean or Pythagorean, and the result appears straight away with the working shown.
Key Highlights
• Your date of birth gives you one number that never changes. Your name gives you three more, and those can change if your name does. • Chaldean and Pythagorean give the same name different values. Both are legitimate. Indian practice usually reads names in Chaldean. • 11, 22 and 33 are master numbers. They are not reduced, and they are not a higher grade. • The result is free and instant. No email, no sign-up, nothing to buy afterwards. • These numbers describe tendencies, not events. Nothing here needs correcting with a purchase. |
What do the four numbers actually mean?
Each one is built from different raw material, so each answers a different question.
Read them together, not as four scores for the same thing.
Number | Built from | The question it answers |
Life Path (bhagyank) | Your full date of birth | The shape of the road. What you keep coming back to, whatever job you take |
Destiny (Expression) | Every letter of your full name | What you tend to build, and how you come across doing it |
Soul Urge | The vowels in your name | What you actually want, including the parts you do not say out loud |
Personality | The consonants in your name | What people meet before they know you |
Most people arrive wanting one number, but the useful reading is usually the gap between two of them.
A Soul Urge that pulls one way and a Destiny that pulls another is not a fault in the chart.
It is a fair description of a person doing work that does not match what they want.
If you ask me which of the four matters most, my answer is that it depends entirely on what you are deciding this month.
How do you calculate your numbers by hand?
Add the digits, then reduce until one digit is left, stopping if you reach 11, 22 or 33.
For a Life Path, take the whole date of birth. Someone born on 14 August 1992 adds 1+4+8+1+9+9+2, which gives 34, and 3+4 gives 7. Their Life Path is 7.
Two Indian terms sit inside that sum. Your mulank, the single digit your date of the month reduces to, is 1+4, so 5. Your bhagyank, the digit your whole date of birth reduces to, is the 7 above.
For a name number, swap each letter for its value using one of the two charts below, add them, and reduce the same way.
Use vowels only for Soul Urge, consonants only for Personality, and every letter for Destiny.
Chaldean or Pythagorean: which system should you use?
They are two different letter charts, and they will often hand you two different numbers for the same name.
That’s expected, and it isn’t a sign that one of them is broken.
Pythagorean runs the alphabet in order, A to I as 1 to 9, then repeats.
It is the system most Western sites and most free tools use by default.
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 |
A J S | B K T | C L U | D M V | E N W | F O X | G P Y | H Q Z | I R |
Chaldean assigns values by how a name sounds rather than by alphabetical order, and it uses only 1 to 8.
No letter is given a 9, which the tradition holds back as sacred. A name can still total 9; no single letter contributes one.
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
A I J Q Y | B K R | C G L S | D M T | E H N X | U V W | O Z | F P |
I use Chaldean for names, as most practitioners in India do, because it scores the name people actually say rather than the one on a form.
Pythagorean is the easier system to check by hand and the one you will meet most often online.
Run both, as I do whenever a name matters. Where the two agree, the reading is straightforward.
Where they disagree, the honest answer is that you have two lenses on the same name, and the choice of lens is yours.
What do the numbers 1 to 9 mean?
Each digit carries a planet in the Chaldean tradition and a recognisable temperament.
This is a lens for reading a result, not a verdict on a person.
Number | Planet | Tends to | Watch for |
1 | Sun | Start things, lead, work from its own head | Going it alone long after help was available |
2 | Moon | Read the room, pair up, keep the peace | Waiting to be chosen instead of choosing |
3 | Jupiter | Teach, write, advise, entertain | Spreading across too many interests |
4 | Rahu | Build systems, hold structure, stay reliable | Rigidity, and resistance to a change already decided |
5 | Mercury | Move, trade, adapt, talk to anyone | Restlessness dressed up as opportunity |
6 | Venus | Care for people, host, make things beautiful | Over-pleasing, and resenting it later |
7 | Ketu | Question, research, need real solitude | Withdrawing when the answer is a conversation |
8 | Saturn | Endure, build slowly, carry weight | Long stretches with no visible return |
9 | Mars | Fight for something, work hard and fast | Burning hot enough to scorch the people nearby |
What are master numbers 11, 22 and 33?
They are totals left unreduced, so an 11 never becomes a 2, a 22 never becomes a 4, and a 33 never becomes a 6.
Each one reads as its base number under pressure.
The 11 has the sensitivity of a 2 turned up loud.
The 22 has the building instinct of a 4 at a scale that asks for more than one person.
The 33 carries the care of a 6 with a public dimension to it.
A master number is not a rank, and carrying one is not an achievement.
What this calculator cannot tell you
It cannot tell you what will happen, or when.
Numbers describe a tendency, not a timeline, and any tool that offers you a date is overreaching.
It also cannot settle a decision on its own.
A Life Path 8 doesn’t mean you should take the job, and a Soul Urge 3 doesn’t mean you should leave it.
Nothing in your result needs correcting with a purchase either.
There is no gemstone, colour or yantra sold on this site, and a weak-looking number is not a reason to buy one anywhere else.
If a number sits awkwardly with your life, the work is in the choice it points at, not in an object.
I would not change a name on the strength of one chart, and I would not ask you to.
FAQs
Is numerology scientifically validated?
Numerology follows traditional interpretive frameworks rather than scientific models. Many users explore it for reflection, curiosity, or cultural interest.
Why do calculations reduce to a single digit?
Digit reduction is a standard numerology practice. It simplifies values into the core number set (1–9) used for interpretation.
Does my name affect calculations?
Yes, depending on the method used. Systems that map letters to numbers include name-based computations alongside birth date values.
Can results predict the future?
Numerology readings are interpretive. Users typically treat them as insights for self-reflection rather than literal predictions.
